a.spell was a Swiss-South African trio with Jan Galega Brönnimann (Bass Clarinet / Contrabass Clarinet / Electronics), Nadja Stoller (Vocals / Accordion / Key-tar / Loops) and Ronan Skillen (Tabla / Percussion / Hybrid Drum Kit / Digeridoo / Udu). For their first album, I photographed locations in Bern to symbolize three “worlds” by creating unique “planets” for each musician. Each planet has its own animals and creatures which I hid in each photograph. If you look closely you can find all of them, and then you will know «where the strange creatures live».
For their second album, «The Meaning of Life», I used graphics to represent the mix of traditional instruments and modern equipment that the musicians used to create their unique rhythmic compositions.
